School of Magic Arts offers after school programming for students beginning at age 7. In fun, exciting group classes with a live instructor, students learn the building blocks of magic effects, are trained in the secrets of successful routines, and increase their confidence in performing.
SOMA curriculum was designed by two professional magicians who are also trained educators, and is engineered to effectively teach the core concepts of stage magic and the art of performance.
SOMA classes are structured for a consistent learning experience. In each class, students will:
HOURGLASS
At the end of their first month, students earn their Hourglass pin. Hourglasses will have mastered at least three magic effects and one key curriculum concept.
RABBIT
After three months with the program, students earn their Rabbit pin. Rabbits are eligible to participate in School of Magic Arts Performance Nights.
KEY
After six months with the program, students earn their Key pin. Keys are eligible to perform in School of Magic Arts Performance Nights, and can access all Key Level workshops.
STARS
After their first year at School of Magic Arts, students earn their Stars! They will get their final one year pin, their School of Magic Arts hoodie, are eligible to perform in School of Magic Arts Performance Nights, can access all Key and Star Level workshops.
School of Magic Arts magic kits are provided to each student, mailed upon registration. Kits include a deck of cards, a magician’s silk, sponge balls, a notebook and pencil, and magician’s rope.
"I really enjoy the relaxed and encouraging atmosphere and the chance to try out the effects for someone other than my family!"
"He was able to craft the props and practice all the skills at just the right level and with the perfect amount of time. There was time to chat with his classmates and make friends with them. And the opportunity to focus and perform is great for his development."
"L loved the class and can't stop sharing his effects at home. Thank you so much for making this class a possibility."
School of Magic Arts Summer Camps provide an opportunity for students, both new and currently enrolled, to take a “deep dive” into the study, performance, and creation of stage magic.
Camp themes like “Eight Types of Magic” or “Magicians We Love” engage campers, whether first-timers or seasoned SOMA students, with hands-on prop building activities, new effects each day, social games, and performance opportunities.
A typical day at a SOMA virtual camp follows our "Prepare, Learn, Practice, Perform" curriculum model.
Eight Types of Magic -
Did you know that there are really only eight types of magic effects? In this five day camp, students will learn effects and based on production, vanish, transportation, transformation, levitation, animation, tear and restore, and solid-through-solid stage magic principles. They will also construct at least one prop a day to use in performance, and, at the end of the week, will participate in a magic show! This is a great "introduction to magic" camp!
Magicians We Love -
In this five day camp, students will learn about five very different magicians and their most famous effects, from Kruti Parekh's mentalism to Harry Houdini's escapes to David Copperfield's large-scale illusions. They will also construct at least one prop a day to use in performance, and at the end of the week, will participate in a magic show! This is a great camp for students who might be interested in the history of magic.
School of Magic Arts Camp Kits are provided to each camper (materials necessary to build all props included) and mailed two weeks prior to the first day of camp.

Forget deck the halls, because it's time to wreck this deck! In this two-hour workshop, students will learn how to construct three card "gimmicks" (props used to perform magic tricks). No need to sacrifice beloved playing cards, we'll send you a deck you're allowed to cut, tape, and paste to make gimmicks you can use in performance again and again!
Private, 45 minute, virtual magic lesson. Magic Rooms can be booked for up to two people (a great quarantine "date night," birthday activity, or parent and child experience). Your lesson will be an engaging, fun introduction to magic run by an experienced School of Magic Arts magician, tailored to your pace and flexibly scheduled. Can be booked for yourself given as a gift.
