School of Magic Arts was founded in 2017 by professional magicians Annie Montone (she/her) and Brian M. Kehoe (he/him) of The Encounter. Annie and Brian love magic, but saw something missing in stage magic education. Instead of just "teaching tricks," they wanted to encourage personal growth and connections by teaching magic technique and performance in a safe, inclusive, student-focused environment. In the last four years, SOMA has welcomed hundreds of students and participants (of all ages, all over the world) to our virtual magic classes, lessons, workshops, shows, and camps. Welcome to SOMA. You belong, here.
In this five day camp, students will learn about five very different magicians and their most famous effects, from Kruti Parekh’s mentalism to Harry Houdini’s escapes to David Copperfield’s large-scale illusions. They will also construct at least one prop a day to use in performance, and at the end of the week, will participate in a magic show! This is a great camp for students who might be interested in the history of magic.
Did you know that there are really only eight types of magic effects? It's true! In this five day camp, students will learn effects based on the eight types of magic priciples: appear, vanish, transport, transform, levitate, animate, restore, and pierce. They will also construct at least one prop a day to use in performance, and, at the end of the week, will participate in a magic show! This is a great “introduction to magic” camp.
Superheroes reign supreme in this awesome new summer camp from School of Magic Arts! From flight to mind control, invisibility to superspeed, students will embark on a five-day journey to create their own magical superhero-style effects and play with storytelling and character creation for stage magic. They will also construct at least one prop a day to use in performance, and, at the end of the week, will participate in a magic show! This is a great camp for students just beginning magic and also those who have taken SOMA camps in the past.
